The Bristol 409 is a luxury saloon produced by the British automaker Bristol Cars between 1965 and 1967. It was the successor to the Bristol 408 and the first model to introduce significant modifications aimed at improving drivability and comfort, anticipating the evolutions that would characterize the brand’s later models.

In the 1960s, Bristol was a niche brand specializing in high-performance luxury vehicles, often purchased by a select clientele. The 409 maintained stylistic continuity but featured important technical upgrades.

One of the most innovative aspects was the introduction of power steering, which improved handling and made the car more agile compared to previous models. This was a significant step forward from the 408, which, despite having a modern design, was heavier to drive.

The Bristol 409 was powered by a 5.2-liter Chrysler V8 engine, capable of delivering around 250 HP, paired with a three-speed Chrysler Torqueflite automatic transmission. This powertrain provided excellent performance for its time, with a top speed of approximately 210 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about 8 seconds.

In terms of safety and comfort, the 409 also featured improved braking and suspension systems, making the driving experience smoother and more controlled. The design retained Bristol’s classic elegance, characterized by a sleek and aerodynamic silhouette. The interior was finished with high-quality materials, including leather and wood, offering a refined and luxurious atmosphere.
